ZenDial Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 3, 2026 · Applies to the ZenDial Android app (package com.geeksaxis.zdail), published by GeeksAxis.

1. Introduction

ZenDial ("ZenDial", "the App") is an Android phone app and call screener developed by GeeksAxis ("GeeksAxis", "we", "us", "our"). You set ZenDial as your default phone app, and it decides which incoming calls ring based on rules you create: who is calling, what time it is, and where you are. This Privacy Policy explains what information ZenDial accesses, how it is used, what is shared with third-party service providers, and the choices you have.

In short: your calls, contacts, rules, saved places and location stay on your phone. GeeksAxis does not run a server that receives or stores them. The only data that leaves your device goes to the service providers listed in section 4, for purchases, ads and map images.

2. Information ZenDial Accesses on Your Device

To work as your phone app, Android requires ZenDial to read and write certain phone-related data. All of the data below is processed on your device.

2.1 Call log

ZenDial reads your device's call log (phone numbers, contact names, timestamps, call type and duration) to show your Recents, to power call-screening rules, and to recognise repeat callers. When you delete a call log entry or clear history inside ZenDial, the entry is removed from Android's system call log. This is permanent.

2.2 Contacts

ZenDial reads your contacts (names, phone numbers, photos and favourites) to show who is calling, to search, and to let you build rules and groups from people you know. When you choose to add, edit or delete a contact, ZenDial uses Android's own contact screens or deletes the contact you selected after you confirm. It never changes contacts without your action.

2.3 Phone and call state

ZenDial reads phone state and the number involved in each call. This is required to place and answer calls, show the in-call screen, and apply your rules to incoming calls before they ring.

2.4 Location (only if you turn on Place rules)

Place rules are optional. They let a rule apply only while you are at a place you saved, for example "silence unknown callers while I'm at the Office". If you turn them on:

  • ZenDial shows an explanation first, and then asks Android for location permission, including "Allow all the time". Calls arrive when the app is closed, so place rules need to know whether you are at a saved place even when ZenDial is not open.
  • The places you save (a name, a map position and a radius) are stored only on your phone.
  • ZenDial registers geofences for those places with Android's location service (Google Play services), which tells ZenDial when you enter or leave them. ZenDial stores only whether you are inside each saved place, not a history of where you have been.
  • When you tap "My location" on the map, ZenDial reads your current location once to place the pin.

ZenDial does not send your location to GeeksAxis, does not share it with advertisers, and does not use it for ads or analytics. If you decline location permission, everything except Place rules keeps working. You can turn location off at any time in Android Settings > Apps > ZenDial > Permissions.

2.5 Your rules, groups and Zen Log

Modes, rules, groups, saved places, quiet hours and your Zen Log (the list of calls ZenDial ghosted or rejected) are stored in a local database on your phone. They are never sent to GeeksAxis.

2.6 Notifications

ZenDial shows notifications for incoming and ongoing calls, and an optional evening summary of screened calls. The summary is created on your phone.

3. Backups You Create

Premium users can export their rules, groups and saved places to a backup file. The file is encrypted on your phone with a passphrase you choose, and saved where you choose. GeeksAxis never receives your backup or your passphrase, and cannot recover a lost passphrase.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

ZenDial uses a small number of third-party services. Each one receives only the limited data described below, under its own privacy policy:

4.1 Google Play Billing and RevenueCat (purchases)

ZenDial Premium is sold through Google Play as a subscription or a one-time purchase and managed with RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-generated user ID and your purchase and entitlement status, so your Premium access can be confirmed and restored. Payment details are handled entirely by Google Play; GeeksAxis never sees them. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy.

4.2 Google AdMob (ads for free users)

Free users see ads served by Google AdMob: native ads inside some screens, occasional full-screen ads (for example after saving a new rule), and an optional rewarded ad you can watch to unlock Premium for a day. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads. Where required by law, ZenDial asks for your consent through Google's consent form before personalised ads are shown. Ads are never shown on the incoming-call or in-call screens, and Premium users see no ads. See how Google uses data for ads. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings > Privacy > Ads.

4.3 OpenStreetMap (map images)

When you view or set a saved place, ZenDial downloads map images from OpenStreetMap's tile servers. Like any website, those servers receive your IP address and the area of the map being shown. No account or identifier is sent. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.

4.4 Google Play services location

If you use Place rules, Android's location service in Google Play services monitors your saved places' geofences on your device, under Google's Privacy Policy and your device's location settings.

GeeksAxis does not sell your data and does not share it with anyone else.

5. Why ZenDial Requests These Permissions

  • Default phone app role, Call Phone and Read Phone State to place, answer and screen calls.
  • Read and Write Call Log to show Recents, power rules, and delete entries when you ask.
  • Read and Write Contacts to show caller names and photos, build rules from contacts, and add, edit or delete contacts when you ask.
  • Location (precise, approximate and background), optional, only for Place rules (see 2.4).
  • Notifications and full-screen intent to show incoming calls on a locked screen and the ongoing-call notification.
  • Foreground service (phone call) to keep the call controls running while you are on a call and have left the app.
  • Run at startup to re-register your saved places and evening summary after the phone restarts.
  • Internet for ads, purchases and map images only.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Your call log and contacts live in Android's own system storage. Your rules, groups, places, Zen Log and settings live in ZenDial's local database, and you can delete them inside the app at any time. You can also choose how long ZenDial keeps screened-call history. Uninstalling ZenDial deletes its local database and stops all geofences. Revoking a permission in Android Settings stops ZenDial from accessing that data from then on. Data held by the providers in section 4 is kept under their own policies.

7. Children's Privacy

ZenDial is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, contact us and we will address it.

8. International Data

GeeksAxis is based in Nigeria. Google, RevenueCat and the OpenStreetMap Foundation may process the limited data described in section 4 on servers outside Nigeria, under their own safeguards.

9. Security

ZenDial relies on Android's app sandbox and permission model to protect data on your phone, and encrypts backups you export. Because we do not keep your calls, contacts or location on a server, there is no GeeksAxis copy of them to be breached. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

10. Your Choices

  • Decline or revoke any permission in Android Settings > Apps > ZenDial > Permissions.
  • Turn off Place rules and location at any time; the rest of the app keeps working.
  • Change ad personalisation or reset your advertising ID in Android Settings.
  • Ask us any question about your data using the details below.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of ZenDial after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
